A Wedding at the County Arms in Wandsworth

I know I am in a similar boat to many other photographers who have endured a year and a half of barely any events to photograph! However, I am happy to say that work is beginning to trickle back. And what better way to reintroduce myself to the wedding scene than to share this beautiful occasion. Liz and Bayly are a wonderfully thoughtful, kind couple who went out of their way to hire local contractors and make their intimate wedding an opportunity to support local business, as well as celebrate their vows with close family and friends. Thank you to both of them for sharing their day with me and allowing me to share it with you. Below are a handful of moments from the event, some of which I’ll definitely be adding to my website.

In the meantime, do enjoy these pictures of this lovely family having a wonderful wedding in Wandsworth!

South London Photography: Some favourite shots from 2019

It’s been a busy year and I’ve had lots of super successful moments. My work has been chosen and published in more places than ever before. I was offered a bursary to complete the part-time art degree which I’ve been doing with The Open College of Arts, and I received a 90% grade for the last module I completed. (I hope to complete the degree this year if I can.) I also took part in several exhibitions and met lots of new people. And I finally got around to publishing a new website.

Here are a handful of images that will sum-up 2019 for me. I can’t wait to see what 2020 brings. To celebrate the New Year, I’m currently offering 5% off all shoots completed by the end of January 2020 (T&Cs apply). Get in touch on 07581 694934 or drop me a line at photo@sarahjanefield.co.uk to find out more.

But most of all – Happy New Year! x

South London Photographer: Leeds Castle Wedding

The title of this blog might sound geographically a little bit confusing, but we should make no mistake about the love and adoration between the newlywed couple who very clearly adore each other! It was such an honour to document this amazing, sumptuous and very lovely wedding a couple of weeks ago and to spend time with Mr. & Mrs. Pitcher along with their respective families. I wish everyone the very best for the future.

See more weddings on my website or this blog and contact me at photo@sarahjanefield.co.uk to find out about family portrait and event photography.

South London Photographer: Wedding in Islington‚Äč

I was so pleased to be asked to photograph Carlo & Helena’s wedding. They had relatives fly in from all over the world to witness their marriage, and so they hired an old London bus and gave them all a tour of our exciting and terrific city on the way to the reception. It was brilliant listening to the most hilarious, and surely one of the best tour guides ever, who also happened to be Helena’s very good friend and colleague. It was an absolute treat and honour to be part of Helena & Carlo’s day and to meet their wonderful families. Here is a sample of images. Massive congratulations to them both!

South London Photographer: North London Wedding

…OK, my headline is probably a little misleading, as the wedding itself was actually rather central although hovering on the boundaries of North London.  But the reception was all the way over at RAF Northolt, which for a South Londoner seems like it might be in a whole different city. It was certainly more than worth the trip! The wedding was attended by wonderful friends and family who all made my job fun by being so lovely. And the couple, Emily and James Warrender, are a truly impressive pair. And I’m not being remotely hyperbolic. As I listened to the speeches I was rather overawed by the couple’s accomplishments. I wish Emily and James the very best and hope their marriage is as successful as both their careers. Congratulations!

South London Photographer: A magical moment

I hate, hate, hate being late. ¬†It actually makes me feel a little bit sick if time starts getting on and I think I will be. ¬†So, especially when I work, I always leave plenty of time to get somewhere, often ensuring there’s a little extra room in my schedule to sit down and have a coffee beforehand so I can relax and get my head in the right place.

In the run up to Saturday, I had a constant debate going round and round in my head¬†about whether or not to drive across London or get the tube to do a wedding job. Traffic can be dreadful on a Saturday but I prefer being in my car if I can before work and it’s more convenient at the end of the day when I’m tired, so in the end I planned to drive, park near the pub where the reception was being held and go and have a light lunch near the registry office. ¬†Best laid plans and all that…. cut to, me panicking in traffic that was far worse than I could ever have predicted with just over an hour to get there, having been in my car for an hour and half already! ¬†Oh my god!!! ¬†Why did I make the decision to drive, I kept asking myself, when clearly the right thing would have been the train/tube combo? ¬†Aaaaah!

Although my satnav said 18 minutes driving left, I knew there was no way I’d make it as I sat motionless behind a bus that simply wasn’t going anywhere. ¬†So, more than slightly sweaty and tingling with horror now, I turned off, found a car park in Mayfair and ran for the Underground. ¬†I was feeling really sick at that point. ¬†But I knew that as long as the tubes were running I’d be there at the time agreed, half an hour before the ceremony, although that gave me no wiggle room at all, and I HATE that!

I made it. ¬†I was one of the first from the wedding party I was there to photograph to arrive. Phew… I found a way to calm down somehow and had a great day working at a wonderful wedding for two genuinely lovely, kind and generous people.

However, at the end of a long and tiring day I had to return to Mayfair and fetch my car, which of course was a bit of a pain. ¬†But had none of that happened, I’d never have taken the photograph I’m publishing here. ¬†As I came out of Green Park¬†Station a women in a big flouncy wedding dress whooshed passed me surrounded by a group of men. ¬†It would have been odd at anytime, but I’d just been at a wedding where all traditional conceits had been eschewed in favour of a more modern and idiosyncratic approach. ¬†So definitely no big flouncy dress! ¬†I loved it – but more of that in another blog.

Anyway, despite having not one but two big, expensive cameras hanging round my neck I really only had time to use my phone – she would have been gone if I’d taken the time to untangle the cameras from my bag, removed a lens cap, etc… ¬†It was dark and only one of the four exposures I took had anything worth considering. ¬†But I really like this image. ¬†I tend to do a lot on my phone as I go about my day but I still think of them mostly as doodles. However, I do think with this image, the stress and panic I felt earlier in the day was just about worth it, as I wouldn’t have seen this women in her magical dress swish past me on Piccadilly at 10 o clock in the evening, coming from and going to who knows where….

One thing I have learnt though – if the job’s in London on a Saturday, just stick to public transport.

Right, the start of another busy week!

South London Photographer: Wedding at St. Mary’s, Paddington Green

I was thrilled to be asked to photograph Ryan and Jessie’s wedding in the beautiful St. Mary’s on Paddington Green. And wow,¬†they both looked amazing and so in love. ¬†I am going to let the photographs do the talking this week as I really think the expressions of joy, adoration and commitment speak for themselves . ¬†All I will say is thank you very much to Ryan and Jessie for giving me the opportunity to do their wedding. ¬†I felt really blessed to be there, to capture their wonderful day and to be able to record some beautiful memories for them.

Enjoy!
